Guard vs Gated vs Suburb (Las Vegas, Henderson: real estate, rental homes, HOA fees)

Hello everyone

My family is relocating to Nevada just before Christmas and I have found this forum very helpful in obtaining information with regard to our impending move.

Lucky for me, I have been on here reading and researching all sorts of things about Nevada. I have been a visitor a couple of times but as you can imagine, we didn’t venture too far past the tourist strip and the amazing desert surrounds. I just have a couple of questions if I may.

Why Gated Communities
What is the difference between Guard Gated vs Gated?
Is their any benefit from these to just suburbs/neighbourhoods?

In Australia, we don’t have gated communities (apart from a few select senior citizen communities) so I am at a loss to understand the pros and cons. When I’ve been on this site trying to find the answers I cannot seem to find any. Real Estate agent websites are also not great at explaining them. Is it just the way developers build them?

If you could provide me with as much information, I would be very grateful.

We have narrowed our search engine to the family friendly Henderson and Summerlin.
